Publications

Jonathan Sykes, M.D., is a world renowned pioneer in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery research. His research has shaped the direction of the field and guided improvement of facial plastic and reconstructive surgical techniques and outcomes. To date, he has published over 100 articles in scientific and medical journals, in addition to contributing to numerous medical school textbooks.

Dr. Jonathan Sykes serves as the President of the American Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery (AAFPRS), the world’s largest aesthetic specialty association. The organization’s mission is to further excellence in the field and serve as the public’s source of information pertaining to facial plastic and reconstructive surgery.  The AAFPRS has defined the specialty as one that requires a high level of training and competence, a commitment to high ethical standards, a dedication to humanitarian service and a desire to improve upon the quality of life.  Dr. Sykes has been heavily involved in the organization for many years. At this year’s annual meeting he presented several lectures, including Cleft Panel: What’s New with Clefts, Secondary Cleft Lip and Nasal Repair: Strategies for Addressing Common Deformities, Comprehensive Management of the Aging Face Patient, and Syndromes and Congenital Problems. The annual meeting drew an international audience and was a resounding success.

Dr. Jonathan Sykes was recently invited to speak at the Pan Asian Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (PAAFPRS) annual meeting held in Yantai, China in August of 2010. The non-profit society is dedicated to the advancement of facial plastic and reconstructive surgery techniques and furthering the excellence of its members. Dr. Sykes was invited to speak on a number of topics, including: Management of Cleft Lip Nose Deformity, and Management of the Short Nose. Due to his position as President of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) and numerous humanitarian trips to the country of China, Dr. Sykes is dedicated to fostering relationships between international surgeons and societies.

Oregon Health and Science University, The Portland Rhinoplasty Course

Jonathan M. Sykes, MD, served as a member of The Portland Rhinoplasty Course faculty in July, 2010. The event was sponsored by the Oregon Health and Science University and focused on a number of surgical components of rhinoplasty, including: complexities of functional rhinoplasty, strategies of revision rhinoplasty, and aesthetic concerns of rhinoplasty. Dr. Sykes focused his lectures around avoiding exaggerated results and creating a natural appearance in cosmetic rhinoplasty patients.

The 6th Annual Facial Cosmetic Surgery Symposium brought together leading educators in the fields of dermatology, facial plastic surgery, oculoplastic surgery, and plastic surgery to share ideas and techniques in the name of furthering facial cosmetic surgery practices. Dr. Sykes was asked to present his expertise on the topic of operating on challenging noses and facial rejuvenation with an emphasis on volumizing. Dr. Sykes is considered a true expert in rhinoplasty and facial aging and takes pride in sharing his knowledge and experience with his fellow colleagues in the field.

Cosmetic Bootcamp

The mission of the Cosmetic Bootcamp is to improve patient outcomes through education. Dr. Sykes appeared as a guest lecturer on the topic of Facial Plastic Approach to Rejuvenation. The annual event gathered leading experts in the field of cosmetic surgery for shared learning and cooperation. Dr. Sykes shared his individual approach to facial cosmetic enhancement.
